The wood workshop was the first working and learning place we created right from the beginning, thanks to Ali’s experience designing and making special furniture for disabled people for over 35 years.
We not only built all the school, and house furniture, but we have also continued to produce furniture for other schools, private people and families with disabled children. All our children ‘have a go’ whatever their disabilities to saw, to paint, to smoothen, to join, to create unusual wooden items. Monira, teacher of sign language and arts and craft, herself deaf and dumb, is incredibly good in making furniture. She is the one who made the new bigger frame with shelves for the kitchen sink in two hours! For us the wood workshop is not only a place where our children learn a skill that they can use to sustain themselves once they live Bholas Children’s home but it also produces an income for the home and for the workers that will always be with us. At present they are making all the doors, cupboards, shelves and beds for the new building that once finished will house fifty children. And a pickup truck
It is very badly needed to transport all the raw materials for the workshop and buildings as well as all the finished furniture we sell outside. We are planning to buy a long bed/single cabin model (Toyota) that will cost approximately TK 1.900.000 = CHF 32.500 - € 21.500 - £ 18.600 |
